The Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan RA rejected the claim filed by Samvel Karapetyan against the civic.am media outlet, which sought a public apology, a retraction, and a compensation for 9,000,000 AMD.
The claim concerned eight articles published by civic.am between June 17 and July 3, 2025, containing critical commentary on Samvel Karapetyan’s activities.
The Court accepted the defense’s argument that the publications were responsive in nature and did not contain any defamatory or insulting statements. As a result, the Court dismissed the claim and found that the articles published by civic.am did not contain elements of defamation or insult. The Court also noted that the statements were political speech and are more strongly protected under freedom of expression.
